Old Steam Sawmill

Expedition Site 11, Expedition 13, July 17th 2009, Belgium

I saw a series of an old place, rich of history in industrial wood chopping...

In Belgium somewhere is an old sawmill that is still fully equiped with an interesting steammaching from De Nobele, Nolet and Bracq from 1902 that was purchased second hand in 1932. The mill is abandoned since 1983. It is a protected site, but the city in which it stands is not maintaining the site as it should and has a year or two ago, been summoned by the province to maintain it as required by law or that they have to pay a fine. Since then lots of plans have been made to convert the site to a museum, a cultural centrum or even a residential area...

Early in the morning I left for the site to meet up with a friend over there. We had no trouble finding the location, but finding an entry was a whole different set of plans. We eventually found our way in and shot the below shots. A very nice site with lots of details to be found... It is indeed very decayed, but with careful threading and no leaning on pillars and such, it is manageable.
